Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.... please!

Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Psalms 138:7

Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve my life;
you stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes,
with your right hand you save me.

2 Corinthians 13:11
Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be one of mind, live in peace.
And the God of love and peace will be with you.

Start over!

Hello my blog readers!

It finally feels like spring is coming (didn't that officially start about a week ago?) and I'm getting the urge to start over in so many areas of my life - kinda like a giant spring cleaning fest!

This includes a spring cleaning in my apartment (typical), a spring cleaning in my diet (necessary), a spring cleaning in my work and workspace (please!), and a spring cleaning in my soul.

However, I need to remember that it's not about doing doing doing... it's about leaning on someone who always gets things right and involving Him in every decision and step (or leap!) of faith. Priorities. I want to make none except to live a Christ-filled life. Under that one simple priority, I can accomplish so much without feelings of guilt or failure for the things I push to tomorrow's schedule.

A devotional that I've been meaning to put on here for you all to read:

"When I was prosperous, I said, 'Nothing can stop me now!' Your favor, O Lord, made me secure as a mountain. Then you turned away from me, and I was shattered." - Psalm 30:6-7

"Just when I'm feeling all secure, like I'm God's best friend, an earthquake splits that lofty mountain right down the middle. And boy, am I dismayed. I have a feeling we can never get so secure in ourselves that we cannot be moved.

Can a rock ever move forward

Maybe I just get bored easily. I'm forever wanting to go someplace with God. I forget that in order to really want to go, something has to happen to make me want to leave where I am. Maybe we're all just sick to death of taking three steps forward and two steps back. Call me a math wizard, but isn't that still one step forward? Isn't that still some pretty big progress as we run against hurricane winds of a godless culture? And if we don't lose that ground, aren't we on our way somewhere new?

Willing to take three more steps - even if we lose two?"

(from Beth Moore's book: The Promise of Security)

Seems like a lot of things that have been happening lately are those "things that need to happen so I want to leave where I am." Haha! I am still wanting to stay put for fear that moving is going to be hard. Trusting in Him, I'm taking some steps.... even if it means this rock needs to get up out of it's comfortable spot in the ground and let God carry me to where he wants. Security? Yes please! But I don't want my own security - I want His.

Here it is! Yummy penne with spinach cream sauce. Dan and I both enjoyed it for dinner tonight. (o:

And now I believe I will top it off with some chocolate milk. And some mad typing for student teaching. You see - tomorrow is my last day for this first placement and I have quite a bit of catching up/organizing to do! (o:

It's been a great experience and I'm sad to leave, but I'm also anxious for the next placement. I've met my new teacher and I think it will be a fabulous placement as well.

Car update: surprise! Apparently nothing is wrong with it. The only thing they did was change the fuel filter and put new gas in it. And.... they can't find anything else. So basically we paid over a hundred dollars for a tow and over a hundred for them to look at it in the shop only to find out... there's nothing wrong. Sweet.

And now I will start typing. And making something sweet for my students tomorrow as a good-bye present. (o:

The good, the bad, and the... hmmm

Yesterday I was zipping along to my student teaching placement in my car. It was a beautiful morning and the sun was poking up and warming my black pea coat as I sat behind the wheel. And then, disaster. My check engine light decided it wanted to flicker rapidly at the same time that my accelerator decided to stop working. Cars behind me became impatient, honking in anger as I turtled my way to the side of the road, ready to burst into tears. I called my master teacher's cell phone- not on. I called the school office - answering machine. I called the school office again and hit my teacher's extension - no answer. I finally got ahold of the secretary only to discover my teacher was in a meeting. By now I am freaking out thinking that I'm never going to notify anyone that I am stuck and will be late. Dan answers his phone when I call him (thank goodness!) and I sob my heart out - bless him for being patient with me.

Long story short - we had to get a tow (for the "awesome" price of $105 since I was about 20 miles away) and took it to the shop. My teacher (bless her for her patience too!) somehow got my message and came to my rescue on the side of the road. The rest of the day unfolded somewhat according to plan.

Now, the story isn't over because today I called Dan to see if he had heard from the car shop. We called and found out that they had simply hopped in our car and started it up and ran it around the block a few times with no problems! Somehow this seems to be only half-way good news (we got a $105 tow for no reason?). Will this ever happen again to me as I drive to my school? I will NEVER trust my car again!

Alright! Done complaining - on to more entertaining things. (o:

I did my summer chicken grilling! Here's a yummy picture. For some reason I didn't have much of an appetite to eat it, though Dan said he liked it and finished mine for me:

Something else that I managed to do that fell into my "summery" theme this week was finding some pretty flowers for our kitchen table! People from church were allowed to take home parts of a left-over flower arrangement, so I found something pink and cheery.
Tomorrow I hope to organize my student teaching binder like a mad woman! And also to make the Giada penne dish from swagbucks TV! I'll let you know how it goes!

Ok, so about those daffodils....

It's Sunday!

I love Sundays for many reasons - the primary reason of course being that it is the Sabbath and a day set aside for worship and resting in my Lord and Savior.

Another reason? Sunday always feels like a fresh start! For example - last week I screwed up some of my best laid plans (example: I did not get around to planting any daffodils and my lesson planning and workouts didn't quite make it to the top of my priority list). But today I feel like I can tackle those things with success and I'm making plans all over again!

Some of my plans (these will also fight those winter blahs that I talked about in my last post):
  • Eat summery foods (aka healthy with lots of colorful fruits and veggies!)
  • Actually plant those daffodils!
  • Do some spring cleaning - my desk being the primary target (let's just say my trash cans will see many different old magazines and papers this week).
Speaking of summery foods, let's try some recipes together - email me your pictures of your finished results and I'll post them on here for us all to get in the summery mood!

Let's get our grill on and cook up some chicken! I plan to use this marinade recipe then grill on my George Foreman and toss my chicken into a baby spinach salad.

My second recipe is actually coming from Swagbucks TV (Swagbucks is one of my new favorite things - see the very bottom of my page!). Giada De Laurentiis makes a delicious-looking penne pasta (the video is called "How to make a light and healthy penne" if you'd like to make it yourself!). I've watched this video before while doing my dishes (might as well earn those swagbucks while I wash!) and every time I have just drooled over it, so now I want to actually try it!

One more summery food recipe - picnic potato salad! I can just imagine sitting outside with a warm breeze to  blow away all the paper cups and plates when I think about potato salad. This recipe is sure to take me to a happy (warmer!) place this week: Picnic Potato Salad

A while ago, Dan decided that he would make dinner. He was so proud of it (for good reason- it was delicious) that he asked if I was going to post it on my blog. So here it is! Dan's Shepherd Pie. (o:
